Iran Cautious About Signing Agreement Due to 'The Other Party's Hesitation'

SadaNews - Iran on Saturday ruled out any signing of a memorandum of understanding with the United States within 24 hours to finally end the war in the Middle East.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ismail Baqai, told the agency, "We have to wait to know the specific date for signing. It won't be (tomorrow) Sunday," suggesting that this might happen in "the coming days.".

Earlier on Saturday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, whose government has mediated between Iran and the United States to end the war between them, had anticipated that the understanding between the two sides would be completed within 24 hours.

Baqai viewed the possibility of signing the memorandum in the coming days as not unlikely, but he pointed out the need to be cautious about commenting on the signing date, due to "the other party's hesitation.".

He said: "Regarding the exact date of signing the memorandum of understanding, we must wait. While it will not be tomorrow, the likelihood of this occurring in the coming days is not out of the question. However, due to the other party's hesitation, we must be careful in any statements regarding this path.".

Baqai emphasized that the "Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding being pursued focuses on ending the war, and it has been decided at this stage not to discuss any matters related to the nuclear file."
