Their Positions Hide Their Hatred for Gaza

We may not blame the supporters of Hamas from outside Palestine and might find justification for them as they are either from Islamist groups, or because they are unable to distinguish between resistance as a right of the Palestinian people guaranteed by all religious and worldly laws on one hand, and what Hamas does and how it manages the Gaza Strip and its external affiliations on the other. We might excuse them if they stand by any party fighting Israel without delving into details and objectives.

And we should not be surprised by the positions of remnants of the Marxist left who want to hide their historical failure behind slogans and positions supporting the Islamist Hamas, which has consistently rejected them. Some of this Palestinian left have indulged in benefits and money from the authority to the point of intoxication and have been part of the corruption within the authority and civil society institutions.

However, there is no excuse for individuals and leaders within Fatah and the Central Committee who know the true nature of Hamas and what it has practiced against the PLO and Fatah and its coup against the authority, as they are aware of its external affiliations. Nonetheless, they support Hamas and its tidal wave, especially armed resistance in Gaza (the low wall), not from a religious ideological standpoint or belief in armed resistance which they fought against, shunned, and distanced themselves from in the West Bank; rather, it is to cover up their corruption and failure to defend the West Bank and Jerusalem, along with the questionable past of some of them regarding collusion with the occupation.

The negative positions of leaders in Fatah and the authority towards the people of Gaza, which have recently surfaced in their support for Hamas despite its crimes against the people of Gaza, remind us of what happened during the Hamas coup against the authority in the summer of 2007.

At the time of the coup, no member of the Central Committee, Executive Committee, or any security official from the authority was present in the strip! Although Gaza was then the center of the Palestinian authority, all its official institutions, diplomatic missions, and the temporary capital of the state.

There is no explanation for this other than that they were aware of what Hamas was planning, and some of them were complicit with Hamas, Israel, and Arab countries, especially Qatar, to ensure the success of the coup and hand over Gaza to Hamas. Their current positions towards the strip conceal a deep-seated hatred for Gaza and its people who have always been at the forefront of the national liberation movement and a bastion of Palestinian nationalism.
