Casualties in Explosion in Damascus

SadaNews - Five people were killed and at least ten injured on Thursday due to an explosion in Damascus.

A Syrian security source told "Agence France-Presse" that they heard an explosion inside a café near the judicial complex in downtown Damascus, the nature of which is still unclear, according to official media.

A reporter from "Agence France-Presse" witnessed ambulances rushing to the site, which was cordoned off by security forces, while Syrian state television reported that there were "a number of injured due to an explosion whose nature is being verified near the judicial complex."

The official Syrian news agency "SANA" stated that the explosion, which is "under investigation", has caused "injuries according to an initial tally."

Since the new authority arrived in Damascus after the ousting of former President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Damascus has occasionally witnessed limited security incidents.

Authorities reported the killing of a soldier on May 19 of last year due to the explosion of a car bomb in Damascus, near a building belonging to the Ministry of Defense, which stated at the time that the explosion coincided with one of the army's units working to dismantle an explosive device.

In June 2025, a suicide bombing inside a church in the al-Dweila neighborhood of Damascus resulted in the deaths of 25 people, which was claimed by an extremist group, while authorities attributed it to the "ISIS" organization.
