The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Affirms the Role of UNRWA in Light of the UN Mandate Granted to It

SadaNews - The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation affirmed the political, legal, and humanitarian role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in protecting and assisting Palestinian refugees, including the provision of humanitarian services in education, healthcare, and social protection for refugees in all areas of their presence in the occupied Palestinian territories in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, and refugee camps in the diaspora.

The General Secretariat emphasized the unity of the Palestinian people in the homeland and the diaspora, and the unity of the occupied State of Palestine's legal, political, and geographical territories in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

The General Secretariat reiterated the need to respect the role and responsibilities of UNRWA, protect its institutions, and maintain its mandate and the authorization granted to it by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 302 of 1949 in its five operational areas, affirming the rejection of any attempts to undermine the vital role of UNRWA, which cannot be diminished, eliminated, or replaced.

The General Secretariat called on all member states, various international parties, and donor entities to support UNRWA financially, politically, legally, and through media, to enable it to continue providing its services to Palestinian refugees.
