Bringing in New Foreign Workers to Israel Instead of Palestinians

Translation of SadaNews Economy - The Israeli Ministry of Economy and Industry announced on Thursday the recruitment of additional foreign workers to Israel for the sectors of industry, commerce, and services.

According to the Hebrew newspaper Maariv, as translated by SadaNews Economy, this move to bring in 5,000 foreign workers is part of a policy to replace Palestinian workers with foreign workers from other countries.

This initiative aims to address the labor shortages in companies suffering from this issue, including auto repair shops, event halls, and retail chains, providing an alternative that eliminates the need to employ Palestinian workers or undocumented residents.

The newspaper noted that since October 7, access has been banned for most Palestinian workers from the Palestinian territories to enter Israel, in compliance with the Israeli government's decision to prevent their return to the local labor market, despite the significant labor shortage, especially in the construction sector.

It pointed out that construction workers are not under the responsibility of the Ministry of Economy and Industry.

Israeli Minister of Economy and Industry Nir Barkat stated, "The era of the Israeli economy relying on the Palestinian Authority that supports terrorism has ended... We will continue to prevent the entry of workers from the corrupt areas of the Palestinian Authority."

He indicated that so far, approval has been granted for the entry of more than 50,000 foreign workers to Israel.
