Supreme Court Reduces Prison Sentence of Tareq Dawour from Akka by One Full Year

SadaNews - The Supreme Court of the occupation accepted the appeal submitted by attorney Muhammad Haj and decided to reduce the prison sentence imposed on his client Tareq Dawour from the city of Akka by one full year.

Dawour, who has been detained for about a year and a half in a security case on charges of "communicating with a foreign agent," was sentenced to four and a half years in prison.

After the Supreme Court reviewed the appeal and heard the defense's arguments, it decided to reduce the sentence to three and a half years instead of four and a half years.

The Central Court in Haifa had previously issued, in March 2025, a ruling for an actual prison term of four and a half years against Tareq Dawour from the city of Akka after he was convicted of the charge of "collaborating with a member of Hamas in the Gaza Strip."

According to the case file, the prosecution claimed that "Dawour continued to communicate with that person despite his refusal to carry out operations or recruit others, " which eventually led to an appeal being presented to the Supreme Court, which decided to reduce the sentence to three and a half years.

Elements from the special units of the Israeli police and the General Security Service (Shin Bet) arrested Dawour from Akka in mid-January 2024.

The Israeli police and security services had also previously arrested Dawour and banned him from Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem more than once.
