Trump speaks about a meeting with Iran in Doha on Tuesday, while Tehran denies it
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump stated that "at Iran's request, a meeting will be held in Doha tomorrow (Tuesday)," while Tehran denied any meeting with the United States in the coming days to discuss the memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharib Abadi said, according to state television, "There are no technical meetings of working groups planned for this week," describing the circulating information on this matter as "incorrect".
According to the White House, technical talks with Iran will be held on the sidelines of high-level discussions, and noted that U.S. Envoys Steve Mnuchin and Jared Kushner will attend a meeting regarding Iran in Doha, stating that "President (Donald) Trump wishes to proceed with the peace process with Iran to its conclusion"; as reported by Fox News.
This comes as diplomatic and military movements continue in the Middle East and the Gulf, on the 12th day since the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, and after 122 days since the outbreak of war, amidst signs of efforts to contain escalation in the Strait of Hormuz.
In this context, Axios reported from a U.S. official that the United States and Iran have agreed to cease mutual attacks in the strait, in addition to arranging a meeting between both sides on Tuesday in Doha, following Iranian statements indicating the suspension of negotiations scheduled for Sunday.
The New York Times reported that a U.S. official confirmed that none of the talks with Iran have been canceled despite recent strikes, indicating that message exchanges continue between both sides through channels aimed at avoiding escalation.
He added that technical discussions regarding the implementation of the memorandum of understanding are still ongoing and scheduled for the coming days, and that dispute resolution channels remain active following last week's talks in Switzerland.
In contrast, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharib Abadi, announced the holding of the first meeting of what is known as the "Hormuz Committee" between Oman and Iran in Muscat, during his visit to the Sultanate of Oman accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that his country is working to implement the memorandum of understanding in good faith according to the principle of "commitment for commitment," while the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf, during a call with his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berri, indicated that ending the war and preserving Lebanon's sovereignty are key components of the agreement.
In a parallel line, Arab communications concerning recent developments have intensified, as separate communications between Arab foreign ministers emphasized the importance of implementing the Washington-Tehran agreement and the necessity of Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon, as part of regional efforts to contain escalation and consolidate understandings in the region.
