Rights Activists Demand to Ban Ben Gvir from Entering America
SadaNews - Human rights organizations have called on the U.S. authorities to prevent Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir from entering the United States, against the backdrop of his anticipated visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York to participate in an international conference for police chiefs and internal security officials on July 7-8.
These demands came after a criminal complaint was filed with the U.S. Department of Justice, accusing Ben Gvir of being responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity, torture, and incitement to genocide against Palestinians, calling for an investigation and legal action against him should he enter U.S. territory.
The rights organizations emphasized that the application of international law and human rights principles must be equal for all officials, noting that Ben Gvir has previously called for the expulsion of Palestinians and tightened measures against Palestinian prisoners and detainees, at a time when human rights organizations accuse Israel of committing widespread violations against civilians and Palestinian detainees during the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
The organizations also called for sanctions to be imposed on Israeli officials they accuse of being responsible for committing serious violations of international law and international humanitarian law against the Palestinian people.
Ben Gvir, along with a number of ministers and officials in the occupation, faces repeated international criticism and condemnation due to his statements and positions calling for the expansion of settlements and the expulsion of Palestinians, as well as his policies regarding Palestinian prisoners, which human rights organizations have described as violating international law provisions.
