Israeli Chief of Staff from South Lebanon: We Continue to Fight

SadaNews - Israeli Army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir stated on Sunday that the announced ceasefire in Lebanon is "fragile," and that the army "continues to fight" there.

Zamir, while speaking in southern Lebanon, said: "We continue to fight. Our goal remains clear: to defend the towns in northern Israel and the Israeli civilians. This is the objective guiding all our efforts, and the operations in the Al-Tahir and Bayufor areas are also aimed at serving this goal."

The Chief of Staff considered that the Lebanese Hezbollah is facing a "very difficult situation" while inspecting Israeli forces in southern Lebanon.

He stated: "Hezbollah has received a significant and severe blow, and we are committed to remaining in a state of readiness to continue operations and prevent the rebuilding of its capabilities. Hezbollah is in a very difficult position."

Zamir added: "The announced ceasefire is fragile, and we must maintain a high level of readiness in case of a resumption of fighting, eliminate threats, and quickly transition to new operations if necessary."

He confirmed that "all resources of the Israeli army are dedicated to this mission."

Zamir's comments came after U.S. President Donald Trump renewed his threat to bomb Iran if Hezbollah continued to "stir up trouble," as he expressed it.

Trump wrote on the "Truth Social" platform: "Iran must immediately stop its heavily-paid agents in Lebanon from stirring up trouble," referring to the Iran-backed Hezbollah.

He added: "If they do not do that, we will strike Iran very hard again, just as we did last week, even harder."

On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant issued their instructions regarding the ceasefire in Lebanon, but the latter said on Sunday that "there are no restrictions on the Israeli army" there.
