Iranian Foreign Ministry Officially Announces: Our Delegation Will Head to Switzerland

SadaNews - With the arrival of the American delegation led by special envoy Steve Wittkoff and Jared Kushner at the Swiss resort of Burgenstock, the Iranian Foreign Ministry officially announced that its delegation will head to Switzerland.

The spokesman for the ministry, Ismail Baqaei, said today, Saturday, that "the delegation will demand the implementation of American commitments and clarification on how they intend to fulfill them."

Warning of Non-Compliance

He added, "We have committed to our promises, and America is obligated to compel Israel to stop its attacks on Lebanon," as reported by Fars News Agency. He warned that "failure to implement commitments will put the understanding at risk."

Additionally, he confirmed that "the other party must take the necessary measures as soon as possible." He continued, "If the other party refuses to fulfill its commitments, Iran will respond with the necessary measures."

He stressed that Tehran has not signed on to an obligation that will not be implemented, and its approach is clear: "commitment for commitment."

These statements came after the meeting between Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, whose country is playing the role of mediator between America and Iran, earlier today, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran, carrying messages encouraging not to delay talks with the American side.

They also emerged amid positive atmosphere mentioned by U.S. Vice President D.D. Vance, confirming that Wittkoff and Kushner arrived in Switzerland, hinting at a possibility of him also traveling there.

Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Guard announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz again, in response to Israeli violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon. However, an American military official commented, saying, "We have not seen any movements indicating the closure of the Strait of Hormuz."

Israel has intensified its airstrikes on southern Lebanon since last Thursday, while a new ceasefire agreement was announced yesterday afternoon, Friday, but it did not last long. The Israeli Air Force resumed bombing dozens of Lebanese towns in the south and Bekaa, accusing Hezbollah of violating the agreement. Hezbollah, in turn, placed the responsibility on the Israeli side.

It is worth noting that the first item of the memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and America on Wednesday night stipulated a cessation of combat and war on all fronts, including Lebanon.

However, many Israeli ministers in Benjamin Netanyahu's government attacked the memorandum and insisted that it does not bind Tel Aviv. Netanyahu himself reiterated that his forces would not withdraw from what he called the "security zone" in southern Lebanon, which extends about 10 kilometers along the Lebanese border, noting that the American-Iranian memorandum stipulated Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, referring to the Israeli withdrawal from it.
