7 Killed in Two Explosions Along a Road in Northwestern Pakistan
SadaNews - Seven people were killed in two explosions that occurred along a road in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of northwestern Pakistan, according to the Pakistani police announced today (Saturday).
The police chief of the Bannu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Yasir Afridi, said: "A private van carrying passengers was targeted by a remotely controlled homemade explosive device."
He explained that "the injured were being transported to the hospital in a vehicle for emergency treatment when a second homemade explosive device exploded," adding that three other people were also injured.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the two explosions, but the "Tehran Pakistan" movement is very active in the area, according to the Reuters news agency.
Pakistan blames neighboring Afghanistan for the rise in attacks in the country. The Taliban government in Kabul has repeatedly denied allegations from Pakistan that it uses Afghan territory as a safe haven for militants.
Tensions in relations between the two countries have escalated in recent months, resulting in bloody armed conflict interspersed with Pakistani airstrikes on cities in Afghanistan.
