Ukraine Strikes Russian Oil Refinery Over Two Thousand Kilometers from Its Border
SadaNews - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukrainian drones targeted an oil refinery in the Tyumen region of Russia in western Siberia, more than two thousand kilometers from Ukraine, warning of an imminent "wide-ranging" Russian attack on his country.
Zelensky added that Ukraine has developed new long-range drones capable of hitting targets over 3,000 kilometers away.
In his evening address broadcast on television, Zelensky expressed his gratitude to the "Ukrainian special operations" forces, which he said had "reached the Tyumen region in Russia, including an oil refinery located more than two thousand kilometers from our borders. This is effective."
Zelensky vowed that the Ukrainian army would continue its campaign of medium and long-range strikes, focusing on the oil sector.
Months ago, the Ukrainian army began a campaign of medium to long-range strikes targeting Russian sites, primarily focusing on the oil sector to hinder Moscow's ability to finance the war.
Earlier, Alexander Mor, the governor of the Tyumen region, stated that "Russian air defenses repelled a drone attack on the oil refinery." He added that initial reports indicated no damage and that all employees had been evacuated.
The Tyumen refinery is one of the largest privately-owned oil refining facilities in Russia, with a refining capacity of about 151,000 barrels of crude oil per day, and it serves as a major source of fuel supply to the domestic market.
Warning and Alert
In the same speech, the Ukrainian president warned that Russian forces are preparing to launch an imminent and extensive attack on Ukraine, urging residents to exercise extreme caution.
Zelensky added, "Tonight and in the coming hours, it is extremely important to pay close attention to air raid warnings."
For his part, Ivan Fedorov, the governor of the Zaporizhia region, said on the Telegram app that "Russian forces attacked the city in southeastern Ukraine on Saturday evening with glide bombs, killing 5 people and injuring 10 others."
He added that the city had been hit by 9 attacks, damaging several residential buildings and other infrastructure.
In the southern Kherson region, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin stated that one person was killed in a drone attack on a village located north of the main city in the region, which is also named Kherson.
Local officials reported that 3 children were injured when the city of Poltava in central Ukraine was shelled by Russian forces.
Russian strikes in various parts of the country resulted in at least 6 deaths on Saturday.
Russian forces have launched a series of violent attacks on the capital Kyiv in recent weeks, as well as on other major cities. Airstrikes last Monday resulted in the deaths of 10 people across the country and significant damage to the "Pechersk Lavra" monastery, an ancient monastery dating back a thousand years that is considered a symbol of Ukraine's spiritual and cultural heritage.
