CNN: Israeli Secret Units Operated from Azerbaijan Against Iran

SadaNews - The American network CNN revealed late Thursday to Friday that Israel secretly deployed military and intelligence units in Azerbaijan during the war with Iran.

The network reported, citing four informed sources, that this was part of a network of secret sites managed by Israel in several countries inside and outside the Middle East to facilitate its operations against Iran.

According to the report, these forces operated from several locations in southern Azerbaijan, near the northern border of Iran, with their closest point being about 100 kilometers away from the Iranian city of Tabriz, which was attacked by Israel during the war.

It indicated that commando units were stationed there, carrying out tasks related to intelligence gathering and operating drones to conduct attacks, as was done in Tabriz and other areas in northern Iran.

These sites in Azerbaijan are among many secret military sites and bases in several countries, including Iraq, the UAE, and Somaliland.

Initially, these forces were intended to work as emergency rescue teams but were later expanded to become integrated military and intelligence sites.

According to the network, these deployments placed Israeli forces close to Iran's southern, western, and northern borders during the war, extending the range of the Israeli army's operations hundreds of kilometers into Iranian territory. These forward positions helped Israel launch repeated waves of attacks on Iran.

According to one source, the working force in Azerbaijan consisted of dozens of soldiers, including special forces and fighters from the Israeli airborne rescue and combat unit, as well as agents from the Mossad.

A spokesperson for the Azerbaijani embassy in the United States responded to the report, stating: "We strongly reject the unfounded claims regarding the use of Azerbaijani territory in operations against other countries."
