Dozens Dead and Injured in Major Russian Attack Across Ukraine

SadaNews - At least nine people were killed and more than 60 others were injured early this Tuesday due to Russian airstrikes targeting several major Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kyiv and the cities of Dnipro and Kharkiv, according to Ukrainian officials.

The raids caused human casualties and damage in several targeted areas, while Ukrainian authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage caused.

Russia has targeted energy supplies and infrastructure in Ukraine, while Ukraine has intensified its attacks this year on Russian oil facilities in a war that has been ongoing for more than four years, sometimes resulting in casualties, but both countries deny targeting civilians.

Dnipro Governor Oleksandr Hanzha reported via Telegram that the region in eastern Ukraine was attacked, resulting in the death of five people and injuring 25 others.

He noted that all the injured were taken to the hospital and their condition is moderate. He shared images of severely damaged residential buildings, burned vehicles, and a destroyed playground.

In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that at least four people were killed and 51 were injured across the capital.

Klitschko stated that what is suspected to be a missile strike targeted a 24-story residential building, causing its collapse, indicating there may be people trapped under the rubble.

He added that a fire broke out in a non-residential building in the Podil district, and another fire ignited in a nine-story residential building after what appears to be missile debris fell on its roof.

He further stated on Telegram, "In the Obolon district, cars are burning after being hit by falling missile debris. There are also fires at two locations in open areas, one near a kindergarten."

Thousands of residents in Kyiv sought refuge in metro stations and other shelters after air raid warnings were issued.

Air raid warnings were issued for most parts of Ukraine early this morning.

Warning of a Major Attack

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated his warnings of a possible large-scale Russian attack, urging residents to pay special attention to air raid alerts.

Zelensky said in his evening video address, "Intelligence warnings about Russian strikes are still in effect. A large-scale strike is likely to occur."

He added, "Our defenses are ready around the clock to the maximum extent possible."

Russia warned last week that it intends to carry out "systematic strikes" on targets in Kyiv associated with the Ukrainian military as well as decision-making centers, urging foreigners to leave.

It stated that this move came in response to a drone attack last week on a student housing facility in the Luhansk region of Ukraine controlled by Russia, which killed 21 people. Ukraine denied carrying out the attack.

In the Kharkiv region of northeastern Ukraine, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported via Telegram that ten people, including a child, were injured in drone and missile attacks.

In the Krasnodar region of southern Russia, local authorities announced via Telegram today that the Yelsk oil refinery caught fire following a drone attack.

Authorities reported that air defense systems intercepted similar attacks aimed at Sevastopol, the Russian naval base in the Crimea Peninsula occupied by Russia.

Russia has targeted energy supplies and infrastructure in Ukraine, while Ukraine has intensified its attacks on oil facilities within Russian territory this year, sometimes resulting in fatalities and injuries. Both sides deny targeting civilians.

The war has continued in Ukraine for more than four years since Russia began its full-scale invasion in February 2022. Efforts to end the conflict have made little progress, amid the focus of the Trump administration on conflicts in the Middle East.
