11 Dead Due to Chemical Leak at Factory in Washington

SadaNews - The number of fatalities from a chemical leak from a tank at a factory in Washington state has risen to 11, after rescue teams found the bodies of the nine individuals who were missing, according to U.S. authorities announced on Sunday.

According to Fox News, authorities previously reported the death of two people due to the collapse of a tank containing "white liquor" at a paper manufacturing facility in Longview last Tuesday.

Search operations have continued over these days, with rescue teams working among the rubble inside the facility, and drones being used to search the surrounding area for the missing.

The collapsed tank contained approximately 900,000 gallons (3.4 million liters) of the chemical solution, which is primarily composed of sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfide and is used in paper production.

Officials stated that tests confirmed some contaminants reached the nearby Columbia River, but assured that no adverse health effects on air quality or drinking water in Longview have been recorded so far.
