Scientists Determine the Number of Sleep Hours That Accelerate Aging

SadaNews - Numerous scientific discussions and research studies have been conducted regarding the ideal number of sleep hours that a person needs to ensure a healthy life free of diseases.

In the latest of these studies, scientists discovered that sleeping less than 6.4 hours or more than 7.8 hours a night can accelerate age-related changes and increase the risk of chronic diseases.

According to the newspaper "gazeta.ru", Junhao Win, an associate professor at "Columbia University", indicated that researchers analyzed data from nearly half a million people, comparing their sleep patterns and their association with the health of various body organs and systems. It turned out that the sleep duration ranging from 6.4 to 7.8 hours per night is the most beneficial, as these individuals showed slower signs of biological aging and enjoyed better overall health.

The researchers also discovered that participants in the study who slept significantly less or more than this range were more likely to experience symptoms of accelerated aging.

Insomnia and insufficient sleep are typically associated with many diseases. Scientists point out that sleep deprivation is linked to an increased risk of depression, anxiety disorders, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular diseases. Sleep disorders are often associated with respiratory and digestive diseases.

According to Junhao Win, sleep plays a fundamental role in maintaining bodily functions. During sleep hours, metabolic processes, the immune system, and many other internal processes that affect health and longevity are restored.

Researchers emphasize that lack of sleep is not the direct cause of diseases but can often be an early indicator of hidden health problems.
