Marches to Commemorate the Nakba in Several American Cities

SadaNews - Several American cities witnessed marches and public vigils tonight to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, where thousands of protesters took to the streets of New York City and the capital Washington, as well as other cities across the United States, raising Palestinian flags and symbols associated with the right of return, chanting supportive slogans for the Gaza Strip and the city of Jerusalem, in one of the largest grassroots movements related to the Nakba this year.

In New York, participants gathered at Washington Square Park before the march began, where the speeches and slogans focused on the ongoing war in Gaza, solidarity with Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, with participants drawing connections between the memory of the displacement of Palestinians in '48 and the current situation in the Palestinian territories.

Many protesters also raised symbolic keys to express their adherence to the right of return, which is one of the most prominent symbols associated with the Nakba commemoration.

In the U.S. capital, Washington, similar events and marches were witnessed in areas close to the White House, where Palestinians and supporters from various nationalities participated, demanding an end to the war in Gaza and alleviating the suffering of civilians, while emphasizing the necessity of protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

These actions are part of broader activities taking place in American and international cities to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, amidst calls for continued public and political pressure in support of Palestinian rights.
