"Fatah" Continues Its Eighth General Conference Activities
SadaNews - The activities of the eighth general conference of the "Fatah" movement continue today, Friday, for the second consecutive day, in the Ahmad Shuqeiri hall at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, coinciding with the sessions being held in Gaza Strip, Cairo, and Beirut.
The conference was inaugurated yesterday, Thursday, with the participation of President Mahmoud Abbas, and the attendance of ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the State of Palestine, religious leaders, and representatives of national factions and civil society institutions.
About 2,580 members are participating in the conference, distributed as follows: approximately 1,600 in Ramallah, 400 in Gaza Strip, 400 others in Cairo, and 200 in Beirut.
According to the movement’s internal regulations, the members of the conference will elect 80 members to the Revolutionary Council and 18 members to the Central Committee, while the conference has the authority to modify these numbers, either by increasing or decreasing, if a decision is made to do so.
The conference activities will last for three days, from Thursday to Saturday, during which the opening session included a speech by President Mahmoud Abbas, in addition to speeches from Palestinian national factions and representatives of Palestinians from 1948, before moving to internal sessions to ensure the legal quorum is met and to elect the conference presidency committee.
The evening session witnessed the election of the elections committee and the formation of various conference committees, which will start their meetings immediately to follow up on the agenda and organizational tasks related to the conference.
Last night, Thursday, the members of the eighth general conference of Fatah elected President Mahmoud Abbas as the president of the Fatah movement unanimously.
The conference members voted unanimously to elect President Mahmoud Abbas as the president and the general leader of the movement, as all members agreed on the importance of the role the president plays in leading this crucial phase in our people's history and their full trust in his leadership.
The sessions of the second day will witness the convening of specialized committee meetings to discuss working papers on the organizational status of the movement and the political situations facing our national cause to come up with a comprehensive national vision that protects our people's rights and contributes to strengthening resilience and challenge among our people's masses. The session will also include the opening of the nominations for membership in the Central Committee and the Revolutionary Council of the movement, the preliminary announcement of candidate lists, and the opening of the withdrawal and appeals process in preparation for the final publication of the lists.
The third day will witness the start of the voting process from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM, after which the counting process will begin immediately, and the results will be announced, culminating in the issuance of the final statement of the conference.
The sessions of the eighth conference of the Fatah movement are taking place in an organized atmosphere that confirms the movement and its cadres' commitment to the success of its eighth conference activities and enhancing democratic participation in its various leadership bodies.
