Trump: Xi and I Want to Open the Strait of Hormuz

SadaNews - President Donald Trump said on Friday that he discussed the Iranian issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and that they do not want Iran to possess nuclear weapons and want to open the "Strait".

The two leaders met in Beijing at the end of Trump’s official visit to China. Trump stated, "We have come up with solutions to many different problems that others could not solve."

Trump had previously mentioned that he would not wait long for Iran and urged it to reach an agreement with Washington. He clarified in an interview conducted in Beijing during his visit to China with the "Hannity" program on Fox News, "I will not be more patient... They need to reach an agreement."

Trump stated that he would feel "safer" if the United States obtained enriched uranium from Iran, arguing that the justification for this is related "to propaganda reasons more than anything else." The U.S. president declared, "I prefer to obtain it (the uranium). I would feel safer if we had it (...) but I believe the matter is more about propaganda than anything else."

He added, "What we can do is strike again," referring to the strikes the United States launched in 2025 on key Iranian nuclear sites. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who, along with Trump, launched an attack on Iran on February 28, stated in a recent interview that the war "is not over yet" because the precise nuclear materials "must be removed" from the country.

For its part, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire must be reached in the Middle East and that shipping corridors should be reopened "as soon as possible."

A statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry read, "The maritime corridors must be reopened as soon as possible in response to international community calls (...) A comprehensive and permanent ceasefire must be established as soon as possible to facilitate the restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region."

The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that finding a quick solution "regarding Iran" will benefit the U.S., Iran, and the countries in the region.
