Israeli Officials: No Intention to Open a New Front in Gaza at This Stage
Sada News Translation - Israeli officials said on Wednesday evening that there is currently no intention to open a new front of fighting in the Gaza Strip, despite Hamas's refusal to disarm and the lack of any progress in talks with international parties.
The Hebrew Channel 15 reported, citing an Israeli source familiar with the details, that the decision stems from the broader security reality, as there are still two other fronts active, in the north and on the regional scene, and Israel does not want to divert its resources and strength. According to Sada News translation.
The source stated: "Any missile wasted on Hamas now is a missile we will not have against Hezbollah or Iran."
The source also indicated that Hamas is not rearming itself at this stage and is primarily reliant on humanitarian aid, a situation that allows Israel, from its perspective, to maintain the status quo for a longer period. He explained: "Israel will not initiate any action there at the moment."
These statements come following another round of talks with senior officials from the Peace Council, which did not result in any breakthrough, and while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with representatives of the council. The channel adds.
It added: Despite the elapsed deadline and expectations of escalation, Israel seems at this stage to prefer not to enter another conflict.
The representative of the Peace Council, Nikolay Mladenov, said in an interview with the Hebrew channel that there are no gaps between Israel and the Peace Council regarding the progress made in Gaza, emphasizing the need for coordination.
