An American Team Heads to Pakistan.. Trump: Ready to Meet Senior Iranian Leaders if a Breakthrough Occurs

SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday evening that Vice President JD Vance and the negotiating delegation will arrive in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, within hours.

Trump clarified in statements to the New York Post that talks with Iran are supposed to take place, stating: "I assume at this stage no one will play games."

He added: "I am ready to meet senior Iranian leaders if a breakthrough occurs."

He indicated that the essence of the negotiations is one non-negotiable demand: Iran's abandonment of nuclear weapons.

Trump continued: "We have very good ideas about who leads Iran and we believe we are dealing with the right people."

He declined to discuss the consequences if talks with Tehran fail, saying: "It won’t be good."

Reuters reported that an Iranian official said Pakistan is making positive efforts to end the U.S. blockade and ensure Tehran’s participation in the talks.

He pointed out that Iran is seriously considering participating in peace talks with America but has not yet made a final decision.

A Pakistani security source previously stated that Trump informed Army Chief Asim Munir in a phone call that he would take his advice into account regarding obstructing the blockade of Iranian ports to facilitate negotiations to end the war with Iran.

Concerns have increased regarding the collapse of the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran after the United States announced it had detained an Iranian cargo ship attempting to breach the blockade imposed on Iranian ports, which Iran has vowed to respond to.

Moreover, efforts to achieve a more lasting peace in the region seem to be on shaky ground, as Iran announced it would not participate in the second round of negotiations that the United States hoped would begin before the ceasefire expires tomorrow (Tuesday), while Pakistan has intensified its diplomatic communications since yesterday (Sunday) with Washington and Tehran to ensure the resumption of talks by Tuesday.
