Morocco.. 7.7 Million Tourists Visited the Country in the First 5 Months of 2026
SadaNews - The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism announced on Friday that the number of foreign tourists who visited the country during the first five months of 2026 reached 7.7 million, marking a 7% increase compared to the same period last year.
The ministry stated in a statement that "the tourism sector continues to achieve positive results".
Last May, according to the statement, "around 1.7 million tourists were received, an increase of 13% compared to the same month in 2025".
The statement quoted the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Fatima Zahra Amour, saying that "the tourism sector continues to perform positively in 2026".
Amour added that the results indicate the effectiveness of the sector's strategy, which focuses on investment in air connectivity, developing tourism offerings, and enhancing the tourist experience.
She explained that this vision enables "maintaining a sustainable growth trajectory and enhancing the Kingdom's appeal to tourists from around the world".
In January, the United Nations World Tourism Organization announced that Morocco topped the list of tourist destinations in Africa in 2025.
The organization reported in a global tourism statistics report that Morocco welcomed about 20 million foreign tourists in 2025, recording a growth rate of 14% compared to 2024.
Tourism revenues last year reached 138 billion dirhams (about 13.8 billion dollars), reflecting a 21% increase compared to the previous year.
Morocco had previously topped the African list in 2024, receiving 17.4 million tourists, an increase of 20% compared to 2023.
The Kingdom is betting on increasing the number of tourists by organizing sports events and international conferences.
It hosted the African Cup of Nations in 2025 and will co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
Morocco aims to:
Attract 26 million tourists by 2030.
Provide 150,000 beds by 2030.
Spend 38 billion dirhams (approximately 4.2 billion dollars) in the years leading up to the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
