Lawyer of Doctor Hossam Abu Safia: He Lives Bound in Extremes
SadaNews - Nasser Ouda, the lawyer for Palestinian doctor Hossam Abu Safia, stated that the last visit to his client revealed "harsh conditions" that the doctor is experiencing inside his detention, where he lives with his hands and feet shackled, deprived of potable water, suffering from food shortages and medical neglect.
Ouda explained on Sunday that Doctor Abu Safia "suffers from various chronic illnesses, and needs to regularly receive medications and medical treatments, which he has been deprived of in recent times."
He noted that he visited Abu Safia on May 26, and pointed out that the doctor was transferred on June 3 from the Negev prison to "solitary confinement in Nafha prison" in southern Israel.
Ouda added that "days are passing without any communication or updates regarding his conditions," expressing his concern about "Abu Safia not receiving the essential medications he needs."
Regarding the conditions of the doctor during the last visit, Ouda revealed that Abu Safia was "shackled by hands and feet," and that the visit took place in a monitored room with cameras, while communication was conducted via phone from behind a glass barrier separating the lawyer and the prisoner, with guards present on either side of the glass barrier.
The lawyer reported that Doctor Abu Safia is suffering from the absence of potable water, food shortages, and experiencing deliberate medical neglect.
The Israeli army arrested Abu Safia on December 27, 2024, during its raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, where Abu Safia was serving as the hospital director, amid the genocide war waged by Israel on the Gaza Strip.
