America Reveals the Cost of the War on Iran So Far

SadaNews - The U.S. administration has revealed that the war on Iran has so far cost at least $12 billion, according to the senior economic advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump, announced on Sunday.

Kevin Hassett, director of the National Economic Council, stated that the total cost of the war will continue to rise, but he downplayed the imminent need for additional funding from Congress.

Hassett added in an interview with CBS: "The latest figure I have been told is $12 billion, which is consistent with current estimates. We already have the necessary weapons to carry that out, so we do not necessarily need any additional funding."

It was not entirely clear how many days are included in Hassett's cost estimate, but he noted that the figure reflects what has been spent so far.

U.S. lawmakers were informed late last week that the estimated cost of the war had reached about $11 billion.

The United States and Israel continue to carry out airstrikes on Iran, in an attempt to weaken its ability to wage war.

In this context, reports have mentioned that the cost of an additional funding package for the war could reach around $50 billion.

The Trump administration has not clearly disclosed the timeline of the war, as Axios reported the U.S. president saying: "Whenever I want the war to end, it will end."

Trump has also publicly downplayed concerns regarding the U.S. ammunition stockpile necessary to continue military operations, stating earlier this month that Washington has "almost unlimited supplies of these weapons."

Meanwhile, the U.S. administration is seeking to deal with the repercussions of Iranian movements in the Strait of Hormuz, through which about one-fifth of the world's seaborne oil passes annually.

Concerns about the safety of oil tankers traversing the strait have led to rising oil prices, as Trump announced that U.S. allies will assist in escorting vessels through this vital corridor.

The strikes on Iran came amid the failure of negotiations regarding its nuclear program.
