More than 30 Israeli Vehicles Penetrate Quneitra in Southwestern Syria

SadaNews - An Israeli force penetrated, last Wednesday evening, with more than 30 military vehicles into Quneitra Governorate in southwestern Syria, in a new violation of the country's sovereignty, according to local official sources.

Local media reported that a military convoy consisting of more than 30 vehicles penetrated the eastern Tal al-Ahmar area near the village of Ain Zawyan in the southern countryside of Quneitra, indicating that the force fired flares into the sky over the area, without clarifying whether it later withdrew or remains stationed at the site.

No immediate comment was made by the Syrian government regarding the incursion, nor did Israel announce the motives behind the operation.

This development comes hours after a similar incursion carried out by an Israeli force composed of three vehicles in the Quneitra countryside, where the official channel reported that the forces arrested a shepherd and confiscated some of his livestock.

The southern Syrian regions - especially the countrysides of Quneitra and Deraa - have witnessed an escalation in Israeli violations recently, including ground incursions, artillery shelling, arrests, and the establishment of inspection checkpoints to interrogate passersby, in addition to the destruction of crops, according to local sources.

Damascus repeatedly affirms its commitment to the 1974 forces separation agreement, while Tel Aviv announced the cancellation of the agreement following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2023.

These developments come despite the announcement in early January of the formation of a communication mechanism between Syria and Israel, under U.S. supervision, aimed at coordinating information exchanges, reducing military escalation, and engaging diplomatically.

Syrians say that the continuation of these violations obstructs efforts to restore stability and limits the government's ability to attract investments and improve economic conditions in the country.
