Russian Bombing on Kyiv Ahead of Geneva Talks.. Communications to Discuss Ways to End the War
SadaNews - The Ukrainian capital Kyiv witnessed violent explosions in the early hours of Thursday, coinciding with the sound of sirens, amid a Russian attack involving ballistic missiles and drones, according to local authorities who confirmed the activation of air defense systems and urged residents to take shelter.
The attacks extended to other cities, including Kharkiv in the northeast of the country, where the sound of explosions could be heard due to drone strikes, as well as Zaporizhia in southeastern Ukraine, where officials reported at least one injury from airstrikes.
The escalation on the ground coincided with diplomatic actions, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone call with his American counterpart Donald Trump, discussing ways to advance efforts to end the war.
Zelensky announced that a Ukrainian delegation would meet in Geneva with American envoys to discuss economic issues and details related to the exchange of war prisoners, in preparation for a broader trilateral meeting early next month.
In contrast, Russian reports indicated that an envoy from the Kremlin would head to Geneva to continue economic talks with the American side, as part of a negotiating track preparing for a larger meeting of negotiation teams.
Despite the political movements, fundamental disagreements, particularly regarding territories, continue to obstruct settlement efforts, as Moscow insists on conditions related to areas in eastern Ukraine, while Kyiv rejects any concession affecting its sovereignty, keeping the prospects for a solution contingent on forthcoming understandings.
