The Central Elections Commission Launches an Awareness Campaign for the Nomination Phase of the 2026 Local Elections
SadaNews - The Central Elections Commission announced the launch of an awareness and education campaign focusing on the nomination phase, as part of the comprehensive awareness initiative accompanying the 2026 local elections, scheduled for April 25.
The commission clarified that the campaign is part of ongoing preparations for the upcoming phase of the electoral process – the nomination phase – and aims to empower citizens, particularly potential candidates, to understand the specific nomination requirements and procedures within a clear and organized legal framework, especially in light of recent amendments to the local elections law.
The commission stated that the campaign will detail the conditions for nomination, the application submission process, the necessary attached documents, as well as guidelines related to candidacy in classified local bodies such as municipalities and village councils, including the procedural differences associated with each. It will also provide clarifications on the specific timelines for receiving applications and mechanisms for follow-up and inquiries.
The commission affirmed that the campaign targets the Palestinian public in general, with a special focus on those interested in running for office, ensuring their preparedness and that their files are complete before the official start of application receipt on February 23, until March 1.
In this context, the commission explained that it is implementing the campaign through its digital platforms, primarily its website, which allows citizens to access comprehensive answers to their inquiries, and easily view application forms and related instructions.
The campaign is also being executed in partnership with several local media outlets, through the broadcast of informative radio and video materials, and the publication of advertisements on websites, contributing to an expanded reach of information, and promoting the principles of transparency and accessible knowledge for all.
The commission urged all those intending to run in the elections to use the current period to review the conditions for nomination, ensure that the required documents are complete, and adhere to the specified deadlines, emphasizing the importance of prior readiness to ensure that the electoral process proceeds smoothly and regularly.
