Ambassador Shibli Holds Meeting with Secretary-General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy

SadaNews - The Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine, Ambassador Hadi Shibli, held a meeting today, Thursday, with the Secretary-General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, Dr. Qutb Mustafa Sano, as part of Palestinian efforts to enhance political and humanitarian support for the Palestinian cause.

This visit follows the reception by the Secretary-General of the academy of a high-level Palestinian delegation headed by Dr. Ahmad Abu Holi, President of the Department of Refugee Affairs in the Palestine Liberation Organization, who called during the meeting for practical steps to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) amid attempts to undermine and end its work.

During the meeting, the Palestinian delegation emphasized the importance of issuing a fatwa that allows Muslims to direct their zakat (almsgiving) funds to UNRWA, which contributes to the continuation of its humanitarian role in serving more than 6.5 million Palestinian refugees.

As a result, Ambassador Hadi Shibli expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Secretary-General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy for issuing this fatwa, requesting him to circulate it as widely as possible. He also called for holding a press conference before or during the holy month of Ramadan to disseminate the fatwa in partnership with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA), the Muslim World League, the Department of Refugee Affairs, the host country, in addition to partners from civil institutions, to achieve the desired goal.

For his part, the Secretary-General informed the ambassador that he would circulate the fatwa and take the necessary measures in this regard.

The meeting was attended by First Adviser Naseem Al-Zaanin and Second Secretary Aathar Omri.
