Ramallah Police Arrest Impersonator Posing as Cybersecurity Expert Involved in Electronic Fraud

SadaNews - Continuing the efforts of the public investigation department in combating electronic crime, and through a collaborative effort between the public investigation departments in Ramallah and Nablus, the police succeeded in arresting a person involved in electronic fraud who impersonated a cybersecurity expert via social media.

According to Brigadier General Louay Arzeqat, the police spokesperson, the suspect was describing himself as a "cybersecurity expert" and a "hacker," managing social media pages with a large number of followers, exploiting the psychological condition of the victims, and claiming his ability to solve electronic issues and coordinate with security agencies and the public prosecution in exchange for financial amounts, using forged technical reports to defraud them. He had collected amounts estimated at around 200,000 shekels over several months.

Arzeqat added that after receiving several reports and through electronic search and investigation procedures, he was arrested in Nablus Governorate.

Arzeqat confirmed that he has been detained to refer him to the public prosecution to take legal action against him in accordance with the law.

Arzeqat emphasized the continued efforts of the police in pursuing electronic crime offenders, warning citizens against dealing with any unofficial entities or individuals claiming expertise in security matters through social media.
