Android Fixes the Most Annoying Issue When Taking Scrolling Screenshots
SadaNews - Reports have announced a small but important update to the Android system that resolves a frustrating problem users faced when capturing long or scrolling screenshots.
When taking a long screenshot, the phone used to save both the regular screenshot alongside the long one, leading to unnecessary storage clutter, especially if you only wanted to save the long version.
This can be likened to "an unwanted guest occupying a seat at the party," as it takes up storage space you didn't need, according to a report published on the "phonearena" website, which "Al Arabiya Business" reviewed.
The New Solution
According to renowned analyst Mishaal Rahman, there will be several changes:
- The regular screenshot will be automatically deleted when saving the long version.
- If you start taking a long screenshot but cancel the process by pressing Cancel, the regular screenshot will be kept.
- The change aims to save space and organize the gallery, and the long versions will not be affected even if shared before pressing Save.
When the Feature Will Arrive
The feature is currently available only to Canary channel subscribers and is expected to reach all users with the Android 16 QPR3 beta update, with the stable version likely to be available in March 2026.
A Significant Benefit for Users
The feature has been available since Android 12, meaning that "Google" took more than four years to fix this behavior which should have been present from the start.
Users who take a lot of long screenshots will notice significant savings in storage and better organization in the gallery.
On iOS devices, this issue did not exist, as only the long screenshot is saved without the regular version.
In summary, these small updates finally make the experience of taking scrolling screenshots on Android similar to what iOS has offered for years.
