Red Crescent Enhances Health System by Opening New Rehabilitation Hospital, the First of Its Kind

SadaNews - The Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced on Tuesday, December 2, the opening of its rehabilitation hospital in Khan Yunis Governorate, which specializes in medical rehabilitation services for the injured and patients from various categories, including those with mobility disabilities and special needs.

The hospital has a capacity of 100 beds, which can be increased, contributing to accommodating the growing numbers of cases needing specialized rehabilitation services.

The opening of the hospital was attended by a delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO), led by Mr. Luca Pigozzi, who expressed the delegation's readiness to provide further support to enhance rehabilitation services in the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Haidar Al-Qudra, Executive Director of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society in the southern governorates, stated that the operation of the hospital is a necessary step in light of the growing need for these services, especially given the limited facilities operating in this field within the sector.

Al-Qudra clarified that the establishment of the hospital came by a decision from the President of the Society, Dr. Younes Al-Khatib, in response to the pressing need for it and the importance of rehabilitation services as an integral part of the message of the Palestinian Red Crescent and its role towards individuals with special needs.

The costs of establishing the hospital were fully covered by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, while the World Health Organization (WHO) contributed to providing equipment and furniture, along with several beds.

The WHO and the headquarters of the Red Crescent in the West Bank also contributed to providing assistive tools for patients, which will play an important role in supporting them after leaving the hospital, thereby enhancing their ability to continue their recovery journey and increasing the operational readiness of the hospital.

This hospital represents a qualitative addition to the health system in the Gaza Strip and is a fundamental pillar for providing advanced rehabilitation services in light of the difficult humanitarian conditions the sector is facing.
