Huckabee: Abraham Accords are poised to expand... and the Gaza truce is "fragile but holding"
SadaNews - U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee told "Newsmax" that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is still holding, crediting the strategy of President Donald Trump in the Middle East, and noting that the expansion of the Abraham Accords could be "soon."
Huckabee explained during his appearance on the "Saturday Agenda" program that upon his initial arrival in Israel, "we were avoiding ballistic missiles every night" from Iran-backed groups, including Hezbollah and the Houthis.
He added, "No attacks on Israel by Hamas have occurred since the ceasefire," describing the truce as "fragile but holding."
The current calm follows Trump's decision to launch Operation "Midnight Hammer," which he said crippled Iran's nuclear capabilities and cut support to Hamas.
He noted the return of all surviving hostages and all bodies of the deceased except for three, describing this as a "huge deal" that many did not believe possible just a month ago.
Huckabee pointed out that Trump's 20-step peace plan united Arab countries in calling for the disarmament of Hamas and the release of all hostages, an action he described as having "changed the dynamics" of the region.
Huckabee also said that Trump reshaped diplomacy in the Middle East, with ongoing discussions to expand the Abraham Accords to include Syria, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia.
He referred to Trump's deployment of B-2 bombers as a decisive message to both allies and adversaries.
He said, "He sent a message that you can trust America," adding that Trump also warned hostile countries that the United States would "find you" if provoked.
Huckabee explained that rebuilding Gaza and its governance will be the most challenging phase.
An international coordination group has begun establishing field hospitals, housing, and distributing aid, and he said that more than 17,000 trucks of humanitarian supplies have entered Gaza since October.
Huckabee added, "The plan is working," emphasizing the need to prepare for cold winter conditions. "We are in a good position and progressing towards a better situation thanks to Trump’s leadership."
