Macron Calls on Al-Shar'a to Join the International Coalition Against ISIS
SadaNews - French President Emmanuel Macron called on his Syrian counterpart Ahmad Al-Shar'a to join the international coalition to fight the ISIS organization, while also welcoming the Security Council's decision to remove Al-Shar'a and his interior minister Anas Khattab from the UN sanctions lists.
In statements to reporters following their meeting on the sidelines of the climate conference in Belem, Brazil, yesterday (Thursday), Macron stated that Syria "is invited to be a full and effective partner in our fight against terrorist groups in the region," adding that security cooperation between Paris and Damascus "is a necessity to protect the French people," according to "Syrian Television".
The French president referred to the attacks that targeted the French capital Paris in November 2015, clarifying that "no one has forgotten that the attacks carried out in Paris were planned in Syria, and thus this is also a security matter for the French."
