Report on the Theft Incidents in Hebron and Tulkarem: Similarities in Method and Disparities in Results
Exclusive to SadaNews: The recent theft incident that occurred in the city of Hebron has brought back to the forefront the case of the theft of shops and the home of the Shantir family in Tulkarem, which took place about a year and four months ago, resulting in the theft of nearly 100 kilograms of gold, valued at approximately 35 million shekels. Despite the long time that has passed since the crime in Tulkarem, the case remains open, and the culprits have not yet been apprehended, unlike the Hebron incident, which saw a development by the arrest of the perpetrators.
A significant similarity has been noted in the methods used to carry out both crimes. In the Hebron incident, a number of armed men broke into the home of a woman living with her four daughters, claiming to be from the Israeli occupation army. They tied up the woman and rummaged through the contents of the house, smashing her mobile phones and computer before stealing an estimated 140,000 shekels. The assailants used Hebrew, English, and broken Arabic to deceive the victim into thinking they were Israeli soldiers.
According to confirmed information obtained by "Sada News", the culprits in the Hebron incident have been arrested and are currently under investigation by the Palestinian security forces.
In contrast, the case of the theft of the Shantir shops in Tulkarem remains stagnant. The affected family has confirmed in statements they published that the perpetrators are known to the relevant authorities by name and description, yet the stolen gold has not been recovered, and no official entity has announced any accountability for the perpetrators, despite more than a year having passed since the crime occurred.
Notably, the criminals in the Tulkarem incident utilized the same method, as they wore Israeli army uniforms and claimed to be its personnel, enabling them to break into gold shops and steal significant quantities estimated at enormous amounts of money.
