The Preparatory Committee for National Council Elections Holds Its Fourth Meeting

SadaNews - The Preparatory Committee for the Palestinian National Council elections held its fourth meeting today, Thursday, at the headquarters of the Legislative Council in Ramallah, chaired by the President of the National Council, Rouhi Fattouh, and several committee members from abroad via video conference.

The heads of the subcommittees reviewed the achievements made during the past period, with the Chair of the Expatriates and Diaspora Committee, Faisal Aranki, presenting a report on the efforts made to communicate with the Palestinian communities. Additionally, the Chair of the Legal Committee, Sakhr Bseiso, provided a presentation on the legal issues related to the electoral process.

The Chair of the Elections Committee, Dalia Salameh, explained the organizational and preparatory procedures related to the elections, while the head of the Civil Society Engagement Committee, Bassam Al-Saleh, presented a report on efforts to strengthen partnerships with civil society institutions.

For his part, Central Committee member of Fatah Movement, Muhammad Shtayyeh, spoke about the appreciation shown by world parliaments, especially the European Parliament, for the efforts made by the Preparatory Committee for the National Council elections, reflecting the importance of this committee's work at this critical stage.

Fattouh emphasized the presence of national competencies among the members of the Preparatory Committee to undertake the tasks assigned to them in preparing for the National Council elections, considering the significant challenges facing the Palestinian national project and the dispersion of the Palestinian people in the diaspora.

He stressed the necessity of adhering to the national line, pointing out that all efforts made by the committee aim to strengthen the Palestinian political system, represented by the Palestine Liberation Organization as the legitimate and sole representative of the Palestinian people both at home and in the diaspora.

The committee members concluded their meeting by confirming their commitment to their assigned tasks during this critical stage and working towards organizing elections capable of achieving the aspirations of the Palestinian people for transitioning to a Palestinian state, and confronting all obstacles, especially in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Jerusalem, in addition to the presence of the Palestinian people in the diaspora.

They also emphasized the need to intensify efforts and coordination with relevant institutions, foremost among them the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Refugee Affairs, the Central Elections Commission, and the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.
