The Islamic-Christian Committee Condemns the Occupation Municipality's Change of the Historical Name of the Buraq Wall
SadaNews - The Islamic-Christian Committee for Supporting Jerusalem and Its Sanctities condemned the occupation municipality's replacement of the historical name of the Buraq Wall with "Wailing Wall," in a new step within the series of attempts by the occupation to obscure the religious and historical identity of this ancient Islamic site.
The committee stated in a statement that changing the name of the Buraq Wall on buses is a distortion of facts and a flagrant violation of religious and cultural heritage, and a blatant infringement of UNESCO decisions that clearly recognized the Islamic identity of the Buraq Wall as an integral part of Al-Aqsa Mosque, rejecting any false names promoted by the occupation.
The committee warned against the occupation's attempts to exploit its ongoing bloody aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank to impose new realities in Jerusalem, through entrenching settlements and repeated assaults on Islamic and Christian sanctities, as part of an accelerating plan aimed at changing the character of the holy city and its religious and historical identity.
The committee emphasized that the occupation authorities' change of the name of the Buraq Wall to a false name is an invalid action that does not create a religious or historical right for Jews at the Buraq Wall, and it will not undermine the Islamic identity of this ancient historical site.
The committee called on UNESCO to fulfill its responsibilities and intervene to confront this serious distortion, which is subject to UNESCO's protection as part of the global heritage, and work to stop the continuous Israeli assaults on the religious, historical, and cultural legacy of the city of Jerusalem.
