Palestinian NGO Network Calls on the UN Security Council to Provide International Protection for the Palestinian People

Sada News - In light of the ongoing crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against civilians, targeting civilians and civil institutions, and the United Nations' announcement of famine occurring in the Gaza Governorate with expectations of its exacerbation in the Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis Governorates by the end of September, and based on the international classification of food insecurity, it was stated that at least half a million people in the Gaza Strip are facing catastrophic conditions, which is the fifth phase of the classification*, characterized by severe hunger, death, deprivation, and extremely critical levels of acute malnutrition, according to the United Nations.‎

Amid the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in more than 62,000 martyrs and over 157,000 injuries, and the Israeli government's approval to begin implementing the "E1" plan, which involves the construction of approximately 3,400 new settlement units, alongside the continued assaults by settlers, including the burning of property, land, and crops, and attacking citizens to the point of murder.‎

What the occupation did today by targeting journalists and medical teams and attacking hospitals resulted in the martyrdom of twenty citizens, including six journalists and one medical team member, all of whom are protected under international law, confirming the occupation's deliberate violation of international law and humanitarian law, and expressing the international community's failure to stop the aggression and protect civilians and civil institutions.‎

The Palestinian NGO Network demands the provision of international protection for the Palestinian people, through the Security Council's approval to deploy UN forces to protect civilians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank from violations by the Israeli occupation and its settlers. In the event that the UN Security Council fails to provide international protection for the Palestinian people, the network calls on the State of Palestine at the United Nations to approach the UN General Assembly and demand the following:‎

• Imposing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ending the blockade, and opening the crossings.‎

• Deploying UN forces to ensure the protection of Palestinians from violations by the Israeli occupation.‎

• Intervening to deter settler assaults and settlement expansion in the West Bank, supported by the extremist right-wing occupation government.‎

• Imposing sanctions on the occupying state and suspending "Israel"'s membership in the United Nations and all its bodies until it complies with international law.‎
