The Palestinian Network of Non-Governmental Organizations Calls on the UN Security Council to Provide International Protection for the Palestinian People

SadaNews - In light of the continuous crimes of the Israeli occupation against civilians, targeting civilians and civilian institutions, and the United Nations announcing a famine in the Gaza governorate with an expectation of its worsening in the Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis governorates by the end of September, and based on the international classification of food insecurity, it was stated that more than half a million people at least in the Gaza Strip are facing catastrophic conditions, which is the fifth stage of the classification*, with indicators including severe hunger, death, destitution, and extremely critical levels of acute malnutrition, according to the United Nations.‎

In the context of the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip, which has left more than 62,000 martyrs and caused over 157,000 injuries, and the approval of the Israeli government to start implementing the "E1" plan, which entails the construction of about 3,400 new settlement units, alongside the continuing assaults by settlers characterized by the burning of properties and land, and the attack and assault on citizens leading to killings.‎

What the occupation did today in targeting journalists and medical teams and hospitals resulted in the martyrdom of twenty citizens, among them six journalists and one medical team member, all of whom are protected under international law, confirming the intentional violation of international law and international humanitarian law by the occupation and expressing the failure of the international community to stop the aggression and protect civilians and civilian institutions.‎

The Palestinian Network of Non-Governmental Organizations demands the provision of international protection for the Palestinian people, by having the Security Council agree to provide UN forces to protect civilians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank from the violations of the Israeli occupation and its settlers. In case the UN Security Council fails to provide international protection for the Palestinian people, the network calls on the State of Palestine at the United Nations to turn to the United Nations General Assembly to demand the following:‎

• Imposing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ending the blockade, and opening the crossings.‎

• Deploying UN forces to ensure the protection of Palestinians from the violations of the Israeli occupation.‎

• Intervening to deter settler assaults and settlement expansion in the West Bank, supported by the extremist right-wing occupation government.‎

• Imposing sanctions on the occupying state and suspending "Israel"'s membership in the United Nations and all its bodies until it complies with international law.‎
