Palestine Participates in International Negotiation Meetings on the Global Treaty for Plastic Pollution
SadaNews - Palestine participated in the second meeting of the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on the global treaty to end plastic pollution (INC-5.2), which was held at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, with the participation of over 2600 representatives from state delegations, international organizations, and civil society.
The delegation included Yasser Abu Shanab, the Director General of Environmental Protection at the Environmental Quality Authority, and Dima Arqan, the Deputy Palestinian Ambassador in Nairobi.
The negotiation sessions addressed key issues related to the production and design of plastics, chemicals, reducing production, as well as the necessary funding mechanisms.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to resume rounds of negotiation later, aiming to reach a comprehensive international treaty to combat plastic pollution, with the date of the next meeting to be announced later.
