Syria: The Standard of Unity Does Not Align with Ethnic Conferences Promoting the Overthrown Regime

SadaNews - The Syrian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that the standard of unity does not align with sectarian conferences that seek to export symbols of the ousted regime under new names.

This came according to a statement published by the Director of American Affairs at the Syrian Foreign Ministry, Quteiba Idlibi, via the "X" platform, commenting on the conference held in the occupied Hasakah province in northeastern Syria.

The conference, held on Friday under the name "Unity of the Components' Stance," called for the "establishment of a decentralized state and the drafting of a constitution that guarantees ethnic, religious, and cultural pluralism."

Elham Ahmed, one of the policy representatives of the terrorist "PKK/YPG" organization, Kurdish cleric Murshid Mashuq al-Khaznawi, along with some tribal representatives and prominent religious figures in the region attended the conference.

Hekmat al-Hajri, one of the Druze sheikhs, and Ghazal Ghazal, the head of the Supreme Alawite Council in Syria, participated in the conference via a recorded video.

In response, Idlibi stated: "It is inconsistent to talk about unity and reject division while sectarian and ethnic conferences are being held, and the symbols of the fallen regime are being re-exported under new names."

He affirmed that "the real standard of unity is the actions manifested on the ground and the obligations built in Syria and among its people."

Idlibi emphasized the necessity of "committing to a comprehensive national project that rejects tyranny and its symbols, and addresses the wounds of ethnic and sectarian clashes instead of reinforcing them."

Regarding solutions, Idlibi noted that "the doors of Damascus will remain open to anyone who seeks serious dialogue and joint work aimed at leading Syria to a better future that befits all its sons."

In his speech at the conference, al-Hajri claimed that the Druze community stands alongside all components of the Syrian people, including Arabs, Kurds, Yazidis, Turkmen, Syriacs, and Circassians.

The final statement of the conference also demanded a decentralized administration.

On Friday, a Syrian government source told Anadolu Agency, speaking on condition of anonymity, that the conference is evidence that the "PKK/YPG" organization, which uses the name "Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)," is not serious about negotiations.

He added that the conference represents a dangerous escalation and will affect the current negotiations process.

On March 10 of last year, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and SDF commander Ferhad Abdi Shahin signed an agreement that stipulated a ceasefire across Syrian territory while recognizing the Kurdish community as an integral part of the state and ensuring its civil and constitutional rights.

On July 25 of last year, the Syrian Foreign Ministry stated that an agreement had been reached for "a round of consultations between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces in Paris as soon as possible to fully implement the March 10 agreement."
