Israeli Estimates: Hamas Will Respond Positively and a Breakthrough Possible in Negotiations Within Days
SadaNews - Estimates in Israel indicate that Hamas will respond "positively" to the new proposal to deploy Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip, while an Israeli official stated that "a breakthrough can be achieved within a few days."
This came according to Israeli reports, including those from the public broadcasting authority ("Kan 11"), in reports on Sunday evening.
The report mentioned that "Israel estimates that Hamas will respond positively to the new proposal to deploy Israeli army forces in the Gaza Strip." It quoted a source described as knowledgeable about the talks, without naming him, as saying that "a breakthrough can be achieved within a few days."
"Kan 11" added that "the new maps presented by Israel to Hamas include significant flexibility from its side, and among the issues that Israel has agreed to show flexibility on is the redrawing of the 'Morag' axis and changing the deployment of (occupation) forces in Gaza."
The report noted that U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, is expected to arrive in Qatar "when tangible progress is made in the talks."
Israeli Channel 13 reported that talks in the Qatari capital, Doha, are ongoing but "at a much slower pace than initial estimates," indicating that Tel Aviv blames Hamas for this, claiming that the movement is "stalling" while the Israeli authorities have made "significant concessions on core issues."
The report added that "in light of the slow progress and exchange of accusations in the negotiation rooms," an Israeli source reported "progress is also being made on the issue of the Palestinian prisoners who will be released in exchange for the return of detainees."
The report pointed out that at this stage, "if a major breakthrough is achieved," Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, responsible for the negotiation team, may be sent to Doha.
In the same context, the report quoted a senior official close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as saying that "the matter has not been settled yet."
The report mentioned that "there are still several issues on the agenda that have not yet been agreed upon, including the deployment of Israeli army forces during the ceasefire days and the issue of prisoners who will be released for every hostage."
It added that "the positive message that remains despite the disagreements is the continued presence of the Israeli delegation in Qatar. If no progress had been made, the delegation would not have remained in the negotiation rooms."
