OpenAI Plans to Launch Internet Browser to Challenge Google and Chrome
SadaNews - Three informed sources said that OpenAI is nearing the launch of an AI-powered internet browser that challenges the dominance of Google and its Chrome browser owned by Alphabet in the market.
The sources stated, according to Reuters news agency, that the browser is scheduled to be launched in the coming weeks and aims to utilize AI to revolutionize the internet browsing experience.
This browser will allow OpenAI more direct access to the key factor behind Google's success, which is user data.
If the 500 million active weekly users of ChatGPT switch to the OpenAI browser, this could put pressure on Google's advertising revenue.
Chrome is a cornerstone of Alphabet's advertising business, accounting for nearly three-quarters of its revenues, as it provides information about users to help Alphabet target ads more effectively and profitably. Its settings also provide Google with a way to automatically direct search traffic to its engine.
Two of the sources mentioned that the design of the OpenAI browser will allow for some user interactions to remain within its own chat interface, similar to ChatGPT, instead of clicking to access websites.
