Egyptian and Jordanian Condemnation of Israeli Statements Regarding Sovereignty over the West Bank
SadaNews - The Arab Republic of Egypt has condemned the statements made by Israeli officials calling for the annexation of the occupied West Bank, the latest being a statement by the Israeli Minister of Justice.
Egypt expressed its firm rejection of these statements, which contradict international law and aim to entrench the illegal occupation of Palestinian lands, undermining the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with East Jerusalem as its capital, thereby reflecting the regional unity of all Palestinian territories.
The Arab Republic of Egypt stressed its rejection of the blatant Israeli violations in the West Bank, including military incursions, arrests, and the ongoing expansion of illegal settlements, coinciding with what is happening in the Gaza Strip, where crimes aim to undermine all elements of life for the struggling Palestinian people.
Egypt called on the international community to intervene immediately to put an end to these blatant violations faced by the Palestinian people on their land, emphasizing the need for the international community to unite its efforts to achieve the aspirations of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is establishing their independent state on all of their national territory.
The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates also condemned the same statements.
It affirmed that these statements constitute a blatant violation of international law and Israel's obligations as the occupying power in Palestinian territory, and an unacceptable assault on the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent and sovereign state on the 1967 borders, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital, asserting that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories.
The ministry's official spokesperson, Ambassador Sufian al-Qudah, emphasized the Kingdom's unequivocal rejection and strong condemnation of these statements, which reflect the extremist policies of the Israeli government and its ongoing unlawful practices in the West Bank, including incursions and the building and expansion of settlements, in clear violation of international legitimacy resolutions, primarily Security Council Resolution 2334, and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice which affirmed the necessity of ending the Israeli occupation and the illegality of building colonial settlements, and the nullification of all procedures for the annexation of occupied Palestinian land.
Al-Qudah warned of the repercussions of Israel's continued escalatory policies, affirming that all Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank are illegal and invalid.
He called on the international community to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities, compelling Israel, as the occupying power, to cease its aggression on Gaza and its violations in the West Bank, to provide international protection for the Palestinian people, and to fulfill their legitimate rights to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital, as the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability in the region.
