Increase in Consumer Prices in Palestine by 1.11%
SadaNews - The Central Bureau of Statistics stated that consumer prices in the Gaza Strip increased by 1.42% during January 2026 compared to December 2025, with the index also recording an increase of 1.04% in the West Bank, and 0.59% in Jerusalem, leading to a general consumer price index increase in Palestine of 1.11%.
The "Statistics" reported in a statement issued today, Thursday, that the consumer price index in Palestine during January 2026 recorded an increase of 1.11% compared to December 2025 as a result of the rise in imported cigarette prices by 15.73%, fresh vegetable prices by 10.15%, fresh fruit prices by 8.55%, potato prices by 8.12%, rice prices by 4.90%, dried vegetable prices by 3.20%, gas prices by 2.30%, and bread prices by 2.05%.
Data showed that when comparing prices in January 2026 with January 2025, the consumer price index in Palestine decreased by 14.39%, with a considerable drop of 36.49% in the Gaza Strip, while the index recorded an increase of 2.95% in Jerusalem and 1.75% in the West Bank.

The consumer price index in the Gaza Strip increased by 1.42% during January 2026 compared to December 2025.
The prices of the following goods have significantly increased in the Gaza Strip, averaging; Pepsi Cola 16 shekels/1.5 liters, short grain rice 89 shekels/25 kg, Manchester cigarettes 103 shekels/pack of 20 cigarettes, Kamaj bread 4 shekels/bundle 2 kg, potatoes 4 shekels/kg, lemons 7 shekels/kg, bananas 10 shekels/kg, onions 3 shekels/kg, and a gas cylinder costing 554 shekels/12 kg cylinder.
Increase in the Cost of Living Index in the West Bank
The consumer price index in the West Bank recorded an increase of 1.04% during January 2026 compared to December 2025, attributed to rising fresh vegetable prices by 21.09%, fresh fruit prices by 6.65%, egg prices by 6.07%, fresh chicken prices by 4.56%, potato prices by 3.74%, and imported cigarette prices by 2.90%.
Additionally, the following goods' prices in the West Bank increased on average; cauliflower 6 shekels/kg, bananas and zucchini 7 shekels/kg each, apples and cluster tomatoes 10 shekels/kg each, pomegranates 9 shekels/kg, eggs 21 shekels/2 kg, chicken 15 shekels/kg, potatoes 4 shekels/kg, and Marlboro cigarettes 31 shekels/pack of 20 cigarettes.
Increase in the Cost of Living Index in Jerusalem
The consumer price index in Jerusalem recorded an increase of 0.59% during January 2026 compared to December 2025, due to the rise in imported cigarette prices by 8.12%, fresh vegetable prices by 5.76%, egg prices by 4.58%, gas prices by 3.56%, and fresh fruit prices by 1.85%.
The prices of the following goods also increased in Jerusalem to average: Marlboro cigarettes 44 shekels/pack of 20 cigarettes, eggs 34 shekels/2 kg, bananas, sweet peppers, and greenhouse cucumbers 8 shekels/kg each, pomegranates and avocados 12 shekels/kg each, cluster tomatoes 13 shekels/kg, eggplants 6 shekels/kg, and a gas cylinder costing 135 shekels/12 kg cylinder.
