The Tubas Incident Reveals the Deteriorating Palestinian Situation and the Necessity of a Large Number of Security and Civil Authorities for the Palestinian Authority

As the Israeli occupation authorities race against time to seize Palestinian land, plunder its resources and riches, and enhance settlement within it, they have begun to classify most of it under what is called "State Property" !!

At the same time, the Palestinian citizen in the West Bank is facing the most horrific process of silent forced displacement, as armed extremist settler mobs roam freely, committing corruption, destruction, and killing; even animals and trees are not spared from their brutal practices, without any means of protection or security provided to this citizen, who increasingly feels he is alone fighting to defend his land and honor !!
In the midst of a suffocating economic crisis and an all-encompassing siege that has reached his livelihood, he barely manages to provide what he can to stay alive !!

Moreover, the West Bank's connectivity is severed by military checkpoints, iron gates, and dirt barriers, depriving him of even the simplest rights to communicate and move !!

While the gap widens between the impoverished citizen and his national authority with its civil and security institutions, due to their failure to provide logical solutions - within their means - for over four years, employees receive diminished salaries, and there is increasing unemployment among the workforce following the disruption of the labor market within the Green Line, along with the accumulation of bank debts and other burdens on this impoverished citizen !!

Meanwhile, our prisoners behind the bars of occupation suffer from inhumane practices, torture, starvation, and the infamous death sentence against them, without any local, Arab, or international support, in a clear disregard that these prisoners sacrificed years of their lives through their struggles, so that others and the homeland could enjoy dignity and freedom !!

As Jerusalem, with its Islamic and Christian holy sites and national and civil institutions, is enduring the harshest forms of siege and deprivation from its surrounding environment, facing efforts to Judaize and erase its original landmarks, as well as demolition and seizure of properties under mostly flimsy pretexts !!

In the same time, the Gaza Strip has been facing a genocide that has affected all aspects for over two and a half years, with no glimmer of hope to end its tragedy or, at the very least, alleviate its suffering !!

During all of this, a group of security forces in the town of Tammun in the Tubas governorate moved to pursue what they called a "fugitive from justice" while he was driving his vehicle with his family, believing he was safe. Suddenly, the security group opened fire on the vehicle, injuring that fugitive and arresting him, but not before killing one of his children and severely injuring another, thus killing the dreams of a family returning to their home and stealing from them moments of reunion?!

Apart from the angry family reactions, official and institutional responses that followed this painful incident, and the calls for investigation and accountability of the perpetrators !! The questions that have begun to surface are, does the Palestinian Authority, whose size is eroding due to the continuous failure in managing the compounded crisis it is experiencing and the occupation practices that weaken it, really need this large number of security apparatuses, including police, preventive security, intelligence, national security, customs control, civil defense, and even this number of ministries and civil institutions, where there are dozens of ministries, bodies, and official governmental institutions?! Why not assign some elements of the security apparatus and distribute them to the Palestinian villages and towns in the West Bank, to engage with the residents, lift their spirits, and increase their numbers in confronting the terrorism of settler mobs through peaceful means, away from armed displays?! Who benefits from spilling Palestinian blood? And what is the price of that?

The Palestinian existence has become threatened and is in jeopardy, and the current stage does not require all this large number of security apparatuses or even civil institutions. Instead of getting distracted by municipal elections or a national council or forming a new government that will neither enrich nor satisfy hunger, or increasing security personnel, who could possibly be merged into two or three apparatuses, focusing on police and civil defense, reducing the number of ministries, merging some, or perhaps canceling some departments, bodies, and institutions, which will lead to reduced expenses.

The current stage is indeed very dangerous, and the required action is to combine efforts from all official and popular Palestinian factions, within a national unity framework preceded by a comprehensive national dialogue, which results in a body or government, or whatever it is called, that takes hold of affairs, with the slogan that Palestinian blood is a red line, and its core work is to motivate and enhance the steadfastness of people in their land through all means.
