Iran responds to U.S. strikes and warns: "Violations in Hormuz will escalate regional tension"
SadaNews - The United States launched new attacks on sites inside Iran early Sunday, less than 24 hours after previous strikes, in a development that threatens regional and international efforts to solidify agreements and prevent the situation from slipping into a new round of escalation.
This coincided with the sounding of alarms in Bahrain, while the Kuwaiti army announced that its air defenses intercepted hostile missiles and drones.
On the 11th day since the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, and after 121 days since the outbreak of war, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced targeting 8 U.S. military sites, including Ali Al-Salem base in Kuwait and the Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain.
The Revolutionary Guard clarified that the attack came in response to the U.S. military bombing of five coastal sites in southern Iran, which Washington justified as a reaction to Iran's naval activities after intercepting a ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
It added that arrangements to control navigation in the strait fall within Iran's jurisdiction according to the memorandum of understanding, warning that any violation of the ceasefire would be a breach of Article 1 of the agreement and would lead to a complete halt of its course.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that U.S. planes bombed sites used for storing Iranian missiles and drones, as well as coastal radar stations early Sunday, warning Tehran that continued escalation could lead Washington to abandon restraint and pursue military action to complete the mission.
For its part, U.S. Central Command announced the execution of additional strikes targeting ten sites within Iran, justifying this by Tehran's refusal to adhere to the ceasefire and its targeting of the oil tanker "Kiko" with a drone. It confirmed at the same time that commercial navigation in the Strait of Hormuz remains ongoing, and that U.S. forces are still on high alert.
