Kyiv Under Ballistic Bombardment as Ukrainian Drones Approach Moscow

SadaNews - The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, has faced renewed attacks throughout the night, with explosions heard, according to local newspapers early this Sunday, as local authorities in Moscow reported the interception of drones heading towards the capital.

The Ukrainian army announced that the capital Kyiv was attacked with ballistic missiles. The head of the military administration in Kyiv, Tymur Tkachchenko, stated that at least one person was injured in the Darnytsia area of the city.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko posted on Telegram that "air defense forces are operating in the capital, so please seek shelter," while reporters from the French Press Agency reported hearing explosions and seeing flashes in the sky.

The Ukrainian Air Force had earlier warned on Telegram of a ballistic missile threat from the north.

In the same context, Oleksandr Hanzha, the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region in southeastern Ukraine, stated that more than 40 drone strikes and artillery shelling resulted in one death and another injury.

This town has been a frequent target of Russian attacks and is located on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River from the Moscow-controlled Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant.

Casualties on the Russian-Ukrainian Border

On another note, local officials reported that drones and artillery shelling resulted in civilian casualties on both sides of the Russian-Ukrainian border on Saturday.

The acting governor of the Bryansk region in Russia, Yegor Kovalchuk, reported via Telegram that an attack by a Ukrainian drone in the Bryansk border area resulted in the deaths of two individuals who were in their car in a village near the border.

Denis Pushilin, appointed by Russia as the governor of the regions it controls in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk, stated on Telegram that two people were killed in Ukrainian drone strikes in the towns of Horlivka and Makiivka.

Russian news agencies reported that the Ministry of Defense stated that 124 Ukrainian drones were shot down over Russian territories within the past hours.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin issued a series of statements regarding the interception of Ukrainian drones heading towards the capital.

An unofficial tally by Russian news agencies indicates that the number of drones intercepted throughout the day reached 24.

Russia's War on Ukraine

Since February 24, 2022, Russia has been waging a military offensive against its neighbor Ukraine, demanding Kyiv's "abandonment" of joining Western military entities, which Kyiv considers an "unacceptable intervention" in its internal affairs.

Ukraine has intensified its strikes, which it describes as retaliatory, against Russia in recent months.
