The United States Launches New Strikes on Iran

SadaNews - The U.S. Central Command, "Centcom", stated early Sunday that American forces carried out additional strikes following the latest Iranian attack on a commercial vessel.

Centcom reported that the strikes in Iran targeted military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and naval mine-laying capabilities.

The Centcom statement noted that the strikes were in response to an attack by Iranian forces using a drone against the tanker "Keiko", which was "flying the Panama flag and sailing near the Strait of Hormuz loaded with over two million barrels of crude oil".

According to Centcom, the movement of commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz is stable.

A report from Axios quoted a U.S. official saying that the United States is conducting airstrikes in the Strait of Hormuz area.

Iranian broadcasting and television quoted a military source saying that the sounds of explosions near the city of Sirik are related to the fall of several projectiles on a communications tower.

An Iranian military source also indicated that several projectiles targeted a village on Qeshm Island.

The British Maritime Trade Operations agency announced on Saturday that it received a report regarding an incident that targeted a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the agency, the captain of the tanker reported that the ship sustained damage from an unknown projectile, resulting in damage to its hull.

The agency confirmed that all crew members are safe, noting that no reports of environmental damage from the incident have been received so far.

The agency did not disclose the identity of the ship or the party responsible for firing the projectile.

Centcom had announced on Friday that the U.S. military conducted strikes against Iranian sites, adding that U.S. aircraft bombed sites storing Iranian missiles and drones, as well as radar sites, following the attack that Tehran launched on a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

Centcom wrote on "X": "The unprovoked aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces clearly violated the ceasefire".

It emphasized that the strikes carried out by the military were "a strong response to the attack yesterday (Thursday) targeting a commercial ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz".

It stressed that "the forces remain present and vigilant to ensure full compliance with all terms of the Iranian agreement and its complete implementation".

Iranian media reported that a projectile fell on the area surrounding a maritime dock in the city of Sirik in southern Iran on Friday.

Iranian media explained, citing a military source, that warning shots were fired hours before Friday towards "violating ships" in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated in a statement that U.S. forces attacked Sirik Island, and Iran defended against the attack.

On Saturday, Iran considered the strikes carried out by the United States on Friday against its territory to be a "flagrant violation" of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.

Iran attacked U.S. sites in response to Washington's strikes, according to reports from official Iranian media on Saturday.

The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain's strongest condemnation of the targeting of its territory early Saturday by a number of Iranian drones.
