Bahrain condemns the targeting of its territory by Iranian drones and affirms its right to defend its sovereignty

SadaNews - The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned on Saturday the targeting of the territory of the Kingdom of Bahrain by several Iranian drones early this morning, considering the attack a violation of Bahrain's sovereignty and a threat to the security of its citizens and residents, in addition to being contrary to international customs and conventions that prohibit targeting civilian objects.

The ministry stated in a statement that Iran's continued assaults, at a time when regional and international efforts to de-escalate are ongoing, places sole responsibility on Tehran for undermining peace efforts, reflecting an approach based on destabilizing security and stability in the region.

The Bahraini Foreign Ministry reaffirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is committed to its principles, and that peace cannot be achieved through threats or the use of force, emphasizing that the unity of the national front and the determination of Bahrain "is more solid than any threat" and will not be affected by the continuation of assaults.

The statement referred to UN Security Council Resolution No. 2817 of 2026, which was presented by Bahrain on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan, and received, according to the ministry, the support of 136 countries, as an expression of international consensus to support security and stability in the region.

The ministry added that the recent attack represents a direct challenge to international will, pointing out that Iran had pledged, under the memorandums of understanding signed in Islamabad on June 17, 2026, to a permanent cessation of military operations and to respect the sovereignty of the countries in the region, considering that the attack reveals its non-compliance with those commitments.

Bahrain renewed its confirmation of retaining its full legitimate right to defend its sovereignty, security, and stability, in accordance with international law, calling on the Security Council to carry out its responsibilities and ensure the implementation of its resolutions and to hold the aggressor accountable.
