Displacement of More Than 40,000 Refugees from Camps in Northern West Bank Since 2025
SadaNews - Since the beginning of 2025, Israeli occupation forces have forced more than 40,000 Palestinian refugees to undergo forced displacement from camps in the northern occupied West Bank.
The Assistant Secretary-General for Middle East Affairs at the United Nations, Khaled Khayari, reported that UN institutions continue to document what he described as systematic forced evacuations, alongside home demolitions, the expansion of settlements, and the increase of settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
These statements came during a speech he delivered on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, which coincided with May 15 of this year.
The UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People commemorated the 78th anniversary of the Nakba at the United Nations headquarters in New York, amid ongoing tensions and worsening humanitarian conditions in the Palestinian territories.
During the event, Khaled Khayari conveyed the United Nations Secretary-General's affirmation that all Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including those in East Jerusalem, lack any legal legitimacy and constitute a clear violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.
In a related context, he indicated that more than 85% of the population of the Gaza Strip has been forced to flee due to Israeli measures and have often experienced repeated displacements since the beginning of the escalation.
The United Nations also stated that it has documented the displacement of more than 40,000 Palestinians from camps in northern West Bank, including about 27,500 from the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, and around 21,000 from the Jenin camp and its surrounding areas, in addition to the displacement of families from population clusters like Ras Ain Al-Auja in Jericho, due to attacks, intimidation operations, and the cutting off of essential services like water and electricity.
