American Study Reveals Secrets About the Human Brain

SadaNews - The human brain is considered the most complex organ in the body, being the main center of the nervous system responsible for managing all vital, mental, and behavioral activities.

In an unexpected surprise, an American study revealed that the human brain can continue to learn and process linguistic texts even in states of unconsciousness.

A research team from Baylor, Columbia, Rice, and Harvard universities, along with other research institutions in the United States, found that the human mind is capable of processing language even when a person is under general anesthesia.

7 Patients

The study, published in the scientific journal "Nature" specialized in scientific research, included 7 patients undergoing surgeries to treat epilepsy. The researchers used a special type of probe after fully anesthetizing the patients to measure brain activities in the hippocampus, the area responsible for memory in the human brain.

They discovered that the neurons in the hippocampus were able to recognize different speech intonations while the patient was anesthetized, and this ability increased over time.

During the experiment, the researchers began reading texts from short stories to the patients while they were unconscious. Through measuring the neurological activity of the brain, they found that the patients' minds were able to distinguish between different speech patterns and recognize names, verbs, and adjectives.

They also concluded that the human brain, while the patient was under anesthesia, could recognize the following words even before they were pronounced during the experiment, a feature typically associated with alertness and attention in humans.

They confirmed that these findings could assist in treating patients suffering from health issues such as strokes and more.

However, these results only apply to a specific type of anesthetic and a particular part of the brain, and may not apply in cases of natural sleep or coma, according to reports from the medical research website "Health Day."
